In 2005, Jeep unveiled the liberty with a diesel under the hood but that model is no longer available. In 2008 Jeep unveiled their newest creation, a concept car that includes a 1.5-liter three cylinder 115 horsepower diesel engine in a two-seat open-air vehicle. The diesel engine is for recharging the batteries for the electric motors mounted on both axles. With only 10 gallons of gas, it is estimated you will get over 400 miles before the next fueling is needed. Other Jeeps that are currently in production with diesel engine includes the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and Unlimited. Jeeps themselves are known to be unstoppable but when you add the diesel engine, it would almost take an act of god to stop that combo.
In the near future Jeeps will have more engine options such as diesel. Jeep wranglers have been spotted sporting the CRD logo and it is rumored they were diesel and possibly a Cummings. When they do, not if, it’s a given that the diesel fuel mileage will be in the neighborhood of 30 mpg and more than likely include Bluetech technology. The Bluetec technology includes such features as a particulate filter for the diesel and a nitrogen oxide reducer by way of ammonia injection.
Diesel vehicles produced from now on will be at least 30 percent more efficient and produce at least 20 percent less harmful vapors like carbon dioxide. The maker of Jeep, Daimler-Chrysler produce some of the cleanest green vehicles on the planet.
